3 - The role of Research Infrastructures (RIs) for Agroecology - September 25, 2024

The third online discussion round on September 25th, 2024, looked at the role of research infrastructures to support an agroecological transition. Säde Virkki, from the Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE), defined research infrastructures and explained how ERIC, the European Research Infrastructure Consortium, oversees how research infrastructures promote innovation and the transfer of knowledge and technology. Michael Mirtl, from the Environment Agency Austria (Umweltbundesamt) presented the Integrated European Long-Term Ecosystem, critical zone and socio-ecological Research (eLTER). eLTER aims at integrating the efforts of different research communities by, among others, monitoring environmental, economic and social parameters and organizing information clusters, to include the cooperatively generated data into their repository.   

The attendants discussed how to establish communication platforms to effectively share their findings with the different actors participating in the agroecological transition.
